A6127(M) Central Motorway East

Where is it?

Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Can you show me that on a map?

Certainly!

What makes this a pathetic motorway?

Well, you tell me from looking at the map...

Touchy, aren't you today?

Not really no - mind you, I'm having a bad day.

Enough with the excuses! What's the story here?

This was in existence only whilst the A1 was routed via the Tyne Tunnel, to the east of Newcastle and Gateshead.

And now?

Well, when the Newcastle and Gateshead Western Bypass opened, the A1 was diverted west.

Unusually, the decision was then taken to pretty much renumber every road in the whole of Tyneside, from having a "6" number (because they started west of the A1) to having a "1" number (because now they were east of the A1).

If you look carefully at most of the current (2005) signage on what is now the A167(M), you'll notice that there has been patches placed to modify the signs to account for the new number - which also means that they look a little odd and wonky.

Have you got an map around here somewhere showing the A6127(M)?

Well, yes, obviously!

Can I comment on this motorway?

Of course! Contact me and I'll put them here!

Have any other visitors commented?

Not yet...
